As the 13th African Games in Accra continues, Liberia’s track and field enthusiasts are buzzing with excitement over the nation’s 4×100 men’s and women’s relay teams. With a blend of seasoned veterans and promising newcomers, Liberia aims to leave a lasting impression on the continental stage in one of track and field’s most electrifying events as they compete in round one today, 19 March.
Men’s 4×100 lineup
Renowned sprinters Emmanuel Matadi and Joseph Fahnbulleh, who have impressive international credentials, are returning to the relay team. The duo competed with the last 4×100 team who set the national record of 38.76.
Joining them are promising newcomers, Jabez Reeves and John Sherman, who were called up from their college teams. Reeves, a Minnesota State University (MSU) junior, recently became the NCAA Division II 200m Indoor National Champion earning a personal best. He broke the school record of current teammate, Emmanuel Matadi who’s an MSU alumni.

Women’s 4×100 lineup
Liberian hurdler Ebony Morrison will lead the women’s relay team as the veteran female of Liberia track. Joining her are newcomers Destiny Smith-Barnett, Shania Collins, and Maia McCoy.

Where to watch
The 13th African Games can be watched on the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation’s YouTube channel. Both the men’s and women’s relay team will compete today in round 1. The women compete at 3:35 p.m. EST/ 7:35pm GMT in heat 1, Lane 6. The men compete at 4:00 p.m. EST/8:00 p.m. GMT in heat 2, lane 5.
