Go Team Liberia’s quick Liberian Football Update.
On Sunday March 24, Liberia’s football team fell to DR Congo in an important away game. As a result, the country lost its spot in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2019). Many platforms reported the loss, making the team a popular online topic. On the other hand, Liberia’s upcoming absence in the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup remains undiscussed.
The 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup will run from June 7 to July 7 in Paris, France. However, the national women’s team did not enter the 2018 AFCON qualification round (a mandatory step towards the World Cup). In fact, the national women’s team rarely makes qualification appearances. Putting these losses aside, Lonestar fans can refocus on the national season and 2020 African Nations Championship (CHAN).
This season, Liberia has 11 Division I teams, 18 Division II teams and 9 Women’s teams. All groups have their eyes on the National Cup. At the same time, the National Team prepares for their 2020 CHAN qualifier against Senegal. Liberia’s first CHAN qualifier is scheduled this year at home, during Liberia’s independence weekend — July 26 to 28.
The Liberia Football Association updates Division I and II fans on their Facebook page. GTL is working on getting official reports for the Women’s League.
