Over the weekend, April 12-14, The University of Tennessee (UT) hosted its 51st Annual Tennessee Relays. Liberia’s own Maya Neal — a dual sport student athlete in Track and Field and Soccer — had outstanding results. Maya represented Liberia at the 2016 African Senior Championship in Durban, South Africa and is a junior at UT.

At the Tennessee Relays, Neal placed 1st overall with a score of 5,456 in the Heptathlon, breaking her own Liberian record by 13 points. Neal’s score was the fifth-best in VOL history and marked the first time that a Tennessee heptathlete scored above 5,500 since 1996.

Neal also set new personal bests in the heptathlon: high jump (1st; 1.67m) and shot put (2nd; 12.13m). Neal’s 200m time was also a career-best (25.13) (3.6 wind-aided).

Congratulations Maya! We wish you much success on the remainder of the season! To follow Maya’s journey checkout her athlete’s page.
